In July 2019, in partnership with Richard Marsh of 4-Consulting,
we presented a paper at the 27th International Input Output Association Conference in Glasgow. Titled: The impact of supranational
conferences on their host economies: the case of Glasgow, Scotland , this paper provided empirical estimates of the tourism
impacts on both the city and the Scottish economy arising from international conference activities associated with the city's
three universities ( University of Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian University and the University of Strathclyde.)
The analysis
used an integrated Input-Output and gravity modelling framework to provide Gross Value Added ( GVA) and employment impact
estimates for Scotland, the city of Glasgow and for communities across Glasgow based on UK parliamentary constituencies. The
paper also considered the relative social value of impacts from Glasgow's university-associated international conferences.
